Links to Further Education Opportunities for Persons With Disabilities
1. Medicine Hat College (www.mhc.ab.ca)
Persons with disabilities have a range of educational opportunities at the post-secondary level. The range extends from regular college transfer courses to opportunities to audit classes that may be of interest. All of these opportunities must be discussed with the Disabilities Services Coordinator.
At the present time, this person is Tara Watkins. She can be reached at (403) 529-3824 or by e-mail at:
twatkins@mhc.ab.ca
Tara can also be reached through the College web site at:
www.mhc.ab.ca Once on this site, go to Site Guide, then Disabilities, and record the contact information.
Lecture classes and some practical courses are open for audit. The cost to audit a
course is half the regular tuition.

3. Lifelong Education and Resource Network or L. E. A. R. N.
Visit the web site at: www.learn-council.ca or call Karoline Fox at 504-3513
L. E. A. R. N. provides special funding which could benefit individuals who face barriers to participation in Adult Education classes.
Each year an Outreach program provides funding to a member agency to host students in non-credit adult education courses. Students come to L. E. A. R. N. for financial support either directly or through referral. Students are asked to pay 10% of the tuition costs; however, no student is turned down because of an inability to pay.
A student is eligible for funding to a maximum of three courses each year. Anyone applying for funding must complete a form that states their current monthly family income and total monthly expenses. Students who receive funding must ask instructors to verify their attendance at all classes. Students who miss classes will be ineligible for further funding.
Outreach funding does not cover courses that are for college credit or are a prerequisite for a college credit course.
To apply for funding a student should contact the Coordinator to set a meeting time. No funding will be provided without an interview with the Coordinator.
