About CCI

The Community Capacity Inventory (CCI) was developed through a partnership of REDI Enterprises Society, L.E.A.R.N. (The Medicine Hat and District Further Education Council) and the Medicine Hat Volunteerism in Action Association (VIAA). Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) South Region Board funded this project.

The inventory is designed to show how every group or organization in Medicine Hat, identified by a community survey conducted in 2004, either includes or can include persons with disabilities in their regular recreational, educational, volunteer, and social activities or programs.

An important objective of this project is to introduce persons with disabilities to the leisure and recreational opportunities offered by our community’s groups and organizations. While the information in the CCI may prove interesting to any person searching for a community involvement, many specific details in the inventory’s data base are of special interest to persons with disabilities. Wheelchair accessibility and the willingness of a group or organization to modify programs and activities are two such details.

Anyone using the Community Capacity Inventory is encouraged to make direct contact with a group or organization if information in this database is unclear or incomplete.
